End of 2011 will be remembered for its massive tablet price war.

And, no, council member, there will be no smoking in this new metropolis. This is an icon for the world's most valuable tech company, not a Pam Am jetliner circa 1974.

AOL continues to unify all of its online brands -- HuffPo, TechCrunch, Engadget, et. al. -- and this app is one more step in an effort to reinvent itself as a digital powerhouse.

I'm an unabashed fan of Android, having owned the original Droid since November 2009. When I travel I absolutely must have the original Samsung Tab 7-inch tablet with me. Google Music is a winner. But I also enjoy unwinding in the evening with a glass of Napa Chard, and Flipboard on the iPad. Call me an equal opportunist technophile.

If all roads lead to touchy-thin-app-driven devices out of Cupertino then that would likely mean: 1 OS to rule them all. And that OS will be an iOS/Mac OS hybrid.

My first reaction: slick! The photos really pop on the iPad's bright screen. I also immediately found myself right at home with the navigation, which, like most iPad apps, is brilliantly intuitive.

Content is organized by episode. Of course, I skipped directly to "4" (Call me a slow learner, I still can't get used to calling Star Wars "episode 4" or "A New Hope" ... come on now!) . There I was able to watch a neat little video about the landspeeder and learn about the choices Lucas made to ensure the actors were still prominent while driving it.

With this one you may also have to get used to people saying to you, "I've never heard of the AViiQ tablet before! Oh, and it runs Apple apps too!"

I'll leave it up to you if you're an aluminum showboat or a scratch avoider.
