Bad Dates - Dragon Theatre - Palo Alto

Chanel pumps and Jimmy Choo shoes: ‘Bad Dates’ opens at the Dragon

Details like these can give a middle aged woman in frumpy, grey sweats with hair that’s gone seven ways since Sunday a modicum of credibility that would otherwise be lacking.
PBO Chorale - c. Caroline Kropp

Philharmonia Baroque’s Chorus and Orchestra bring Haydn’s creation home

Her voice is so powerful and her range so extended that it soars above the full orchestra, the chorus and her fellow soloists only to come down with exquisite gentleness and nail whole rivulets of notes with fluid perfection.
Ives Quartet

Not being a violinist, this cracked open the door a wee touch into how the magic is made.
Snow Falling on Cedars at TheatreWorks - Mountain View

Review: ‘Snow Falling on Cedars’ at TheatreWorks

Not telling a story becomes as much a way of telling the tale, as the reticence of the Japanese characters is as loud as the self-righteous Norwegian voices.
Tobacco Factory, scene I The Toreador (with Maximo Califano as Escamillo) scene 4

Review: Season finale for Ballet San Jose

Costumes and scenery by Antoni Clavé balance grittiness against style as only the French can.
Chanticleer

Chanticleer in San Jose: Ancient texts, 20th Century tunes

In swapping out the usual story of dazzling the elders at the temple in favor of a non-canonical text about the child Christ, Chanticleer adds unexpected novelty, making it a richer experience for the audience.
Bay Brass

A joyful sound with Bay Brass

These guys (a gender-neutral term) are the best of the best, and when they're having fun with their music it shows.
NCCO - Melody Moore

New Century’s back in town

Being largely unfamiliar with these lieder, I appreciated Moore’s performance of two different settings for the same poem (An den Mond) because it pointed the way to how Schubert’s handling of the material matured over time.
Bohlin

Review: Ragnar Bohlin conducts ‘Bach’s B minor Mass’ at San Francisco Symphony

Each passage totally exhausts the possibility of what can be done with this material, leaving the audience amazed and stunned at what can be done with this simple six-word passage set as a texturally dense, five-part fugue.

Wirehead: Viagra for the Mind

A “wirehead” is a human with an intracranially implanted “z drive.”
