When they Kill Kenny it's funny, when they Kill the Start Button not so much. Worse still for Microsoft, consumers won't be running away from the Vista Monster when Windows 8 finally lands this month. Are there compelling reasons for consumers to buy the new OS?

According to Waze CEO Noam Bardin, in 5 years there will be two mapping views of the world: Google and Waze. "If I'm going to be the second map out there to Google, shouldn't I go public?"

Will HTC, LG or Samsung make the next Nexus? Or will all of them make one? According to Droid Life, we could see the new Nexus announced at All Things D's "Dive into Mobile." That conference takes place at the end of October.

RIM should license Android. Sound foolhardy? Consider how well that strategy has served Samsung in the consumer space. Galaxy S III sales have been off the charts, second only to the Apple iPhone 5 in terms of buzz, retail turnover for 2012.

Android is winning because it is by nature customizable by manufacturers, can be retrofitted for a variety of platforms, and gives consumers far more choice (various price points, screen sizes, performance levels).

I was able to adjust the EQ to dial in beautiful sound for a variety of music I sampled on the Jays One Plus headphones, including classical (Brahms), Pop (Peter Gabriel, Lady Gaga), Country (Johnny Cash), and Rock (U2, Nine Inch Nails).

The 5-inch display on the HTC Google Nexus 5 would put the new flagship Android in the so-called "phablet" category- a device with a screen big enough to slot in between a small tablet (at 7-inches) and a standard smartphone (typically at 4- to 4.65-inches).

With all of the hardware announcements this month -- Kindle HD, Nokia Lumia 920, HTC Windows Phone 8S and 8X, Apple iPhone 5 -- it's great to see some news on the content front.

Just how I contemplated upgrading to a 5D Mark II (and then the Mark III) I realize that the benefits over something like the EOS 60D probably don't warrant the incremental outlay.

The iPhone 5 is underwhelming at best, and a dud at worst. It's clear to me that the Golden Age of mobile tech, presided by Steve Jobs, is over.
