Eric Migicovsky this week took the wraps off the updated and near final designs of the revived Pebble smartwatches.

In a 15-minute YouTube video reveal (watch below), key improvements are noted in the upcoming models including:

  • Smaller bezels
  • New flat glass lens (no more double reflections)
  • RGB LED backlight
  • 4 color options

The smaller bezels are a big deal. The new Pebble Time 2, by comparison to the original Pebble Time Steel, has bezels that are orders of magnitude smaller. Consequently the screen-to-watch ratio is improved, lending a modern, improved look.

Other standard features:

  • 30-day battery life
  • IPX8 water resistance
  • Step and sleep tracking
  • Microphone and speaker
  • Runs PebbleOS (open source)
  • 10,000+ watchfaces and apps

In addition, Migicovsky announced that he now has the rights to the name “Pebble.” Along with showcasing two early design samples of the watch, and the ability to call them Pebbles once more, and the news seemed to give him an upbeat demeanor.

That means the watches get official new Pebble names:

  • Pebble 2 Duo $149 USD
  • Pebble Time 2 $225 USD

Here’s how the two models compare at a glance:

Early Sales Success

Migicovsky said that he has received over 50,000 pre-orders for the new Pebbles.

While not Apple Watch levels, the early sales success does demonstrate the potential viability of a niche for these sorts of charming, simple devices (by comparison to Apple and Fitbit) that have long battery life. In some ways, the community reminds of the one that loves retro gaming. There’s something that just feels right about simple things that make us smile (vinyl, Hi-Fi, etc.).

“For those unfamiliar with Pebble, it’s an e-paper smartwatch with simple functionality, long battery life and a fun, quirky design. It first launched on Kickstarter in 2012. The company was sold in 2016 to Fitbit. In January 2025, Google graciously open sourced PebbleOS, enabling anyone to build upon the amazing Pebble software foundation.”

Based on the reactions in the YouTube comments, the new designs are being well received. Very much so. Especially for the Pebble Time 2.

Being an absolute Pebble nerd from Day 1, my pre-order is already in. Though, I will definitely swap it for the slick Pebble Time 2. For $75 more, I think the color screen and sleeker design are totally worth it. Eric says surveys will land in our inboxes at some point, looking for feedback on colorways. Of course, my dream would be Stark Insider Orange! (#D17525)

My only issue (and first world problem): I’ve been using an Apple Watch ever since Pebble ceased to exist in 2016. And, now, I find using it to track all my health and workout metrics invaluable. Sigh. Maybe I’ll go full-on smartwatch nerd and wear one on either wrist. I’m just that kind of weirdo I guess.

Pre-orders for both Pebble 2 smartwatches are now open at the Pebble Store.
