This is a good time to buy a car. Pretty much anything is a bargain. Of course, there is a reason: no one has any discretionary money to spend on luxury goods!

But, if you planned ahead, and somehow avoided meltdown losses, now would be an ideal time to negotiate that killer deal for a Porsche 911, Aston Martin Vantage, or Mercedes SL. I think you’d still have a tough time though with certain popular models such as the Audi R8.

For the rest of us though, we can still enjoy some Porsche style without the Porsche price tag. I was thumbing through the new “Porsche Design Driver’s Selection 2008/2009” catalog that arrived in my mailbox yesterday, and figured this was a great way to keep the Porsche dream alive this holiday season.

Some gift highlights from the catalog worth checking out:

  • Polos with Porsche logo from $59
  • Boxster Pedal Car $279 (for the 2-4yr old trying to lose their license, before they have it)
  • 1:43 scale Porsche models from $39
  • 2009 Style Calendar $89

HOLIDAY GIFT IDEA

What: Gifts and stocking stuffers from the 2008/2009 Porsche Design Driver’s Selection Catalog

List price: From $7 to the sky’s the limit

Where to buy: Direct from Porsche Design

They’ll thank you: for keeping the dream alive, even if their 911 is only 1:18 scale.
