Celebrating Artists, Community, Activism and Social Change on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Historic San Francisco Chronicle Building

Intersection for the Arts proudly announced its 45th anniversary gala. The evening’s highlights include Intersection’s highly anticipated art auction featuring over 70 one-of-a-kind pieces by celebrated artists with highlights including: Binh Danh, Ala Ebtekar, Taraneh Hemami, Deborah Oropallo, Tim Rollins +K.O.S. and Andrew Schoultz. This year, Intersection also introduces the inaugural Intersection ChangeMaker Awards. These awards will honor emerging and established artists and organizations that inspire collaboration, experimentation and transformation in their communities. The evening will include live music by DJ Aztec Parrot and others, exquisite food and beverages, as well as lively bidding.

The 45th Anniversary Gala comes just on the heels of the May 19 launch of Intersection 5M, a radical new cross sector project in partnership with the Hub Bay Area and TechShop–a collaboration on programs that explore the nexus of art, innovation, and social change; and that forge new pathways for the Bay Area cultural community.

With the gala, the awards, and this innovative collaboration, Intersection continues to assert the role arts and culture can play in tackling the world’s most pressing, social, cultural and environmental challenges by placing art at the core of social change and community transformation. Proceeds from Intersection’s 45th Anniversary Gala will help support Intersection’s visual arts, theater, jazz, educational, and artists resources programming.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the SF Chronicle Building located at 901 Mission Street (at 5th Street), San Francisco, CA 94103. The gala is from 7pm-10pm. A special VIP Members Preview reception will take place at 6pm-7pm on the same evening.
