The Yale Glee Club coming to San Francisco

Currently celebrating its 150th year, the Yale Glee Club - under the direction of Jeffrey Douma - is Yale University's oldest musical organization and is the principal undergraduate mixed chorus.

The renowned Yale Glee Club, featuring special guests Darren Criss (“Glee”) and the SFGC Alumnae Chorus, will perform at San Francisco’s Marines’ Memorial Theatre for one performance only on Saturday, May 14th.

Proceeds from the performance will benefit two local non-profit organizations: No Bully and their effort to stop bullying in schools as well as YouthAware, New Conservatory Theatre Center’s educational theatre program that entertains, inspires, illuminates social issues and encourages healthier life choices to youth throughout Northern California school districts, community centers, shelters and juvenile justice facilities.

Currently celebrating its 150th year, the Yale Glee Club – under the direction of Jeffrey Douma – is Yale University’s oldest musical organization and is the principal undergraduate mixed chorus. From its earliest days as a group of 13 men to its current incarnation as an eighty-voice chorus of women and men, the Yale Glee Club has represented the best in collegiate singing for nearly a century and a half.

One of the most traveled choruses in the world, the Yale Glee Club has performed in every major city in the United States and has entertained enthusiastic audiences on five continents including North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. This season, the Glee Club will travel domestically from California to Washington, DC, and will appear internationally in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, and Turkey.

Featuring choral music from the 16th century to the present, the Glee Club’s repertoire embraces a broad spectrum, including Renaissance motets, contemporary choral works, world folk music and traditional Yale songs.

Saturday, May 14 marks the third global Yale Day of Service, building on the university’s longstanding legacy of leadership in service to society Thousands of Yale alumni, families, and friends will connect in community service on May 14 at hundreds of sites across the country and around the world to restore parks, build homes, serve meals and tutor children.

The evening is sponsored by The Association of Yale Alumni, Yale GALA: Yale’s LBGT Alumni Association, Eli’s Mishpacha: Yale’s Jewish Alumni Association. Co-sponsors include The Yale Club of San Francisco, The Yale Club of Silicon Valley, The Yale Latino Alumni Association, The Yale Black Alumni Association, and USNA Out.

The Yale Glee Club featuring special guests Darren Criss and the SFGC Alumnae Chorus will perform at San Francisco’s Marines’ Memorial Theatre for one night only on Saturday, May 14th at 8 p.m. Tickets range in price from $75 – $125 and are on-sale now at the Marines’ Memorial Theatre box office, by phone at 415-771-6900 and online.
