Gavin Newsom is taking it to the web, social media style… “for a better California” of course. Thanks to the low, low cost—that would be free—of sites like YouTube his campaign team is doing what it can to battle the larger pot his opponent Jerry Brown wields.

The first ad “This is the Race”, seen below, is not what I was anticipating; it’s a tired, old school, black & white series of stills that does little to capture the San Francisco mayor’s personality.

You could insert any politician into the video and the result would be the same. Still, it will be interesting to watch the race unfold.

Will Newsom’s social media outreach, including Facebook, Twitter and now YouTube pay-off?
