Obidos, Portugal is known as the “Wedding Present Town” because it was a gift King Dinis gave to Queen Isabel on their wedding day in 1282. Quite the present don’t you think?

It seems fitting that while in Portugal, Obidos offered some of the best little shops to explore for more modest gifts for those us who can’t afford to give away entire villages.

There are many shops offering local crafts such as handmade tiles, pottery and paintings. The most unusual gift items I saw were life-like ceramic sculptures of shoes and handbags, definitely the perfect gift for the person in your life who has a shoe and handbag fetish.
I purchased a couple of tiles as decorative accessories for our wine cellar.
