Nissan yesterday announced they are starting to test out an on-board breathalyzer system to prevent drunk driving . As much as I am in support of the prevention of drunk driving, I am also concerned with the general trend of using technology to prevent stupidity.

I shudder to think of a day when a drunk driver sues a car company because the breathalyzer or some other piece of technology did not prevent them from committing an act of stupidity.

There is no substitute for common sense. Technology is the manifestation of humankind’s ingenuity, let’s hope we never make it the scapegoat for our stupidity.
