Vegetable Planter Box - photos, tips and DIY plans

I love receiving letters and photos from readers who have downloaded and built their very own vegetable planter box. The latest photos and letter comes from Julie who built a planter box with her husband to grow herbs. Julie appreciate the letter and hope you have some delicious meals seasoned with your home-grown herbs.

Hi Loni!

Thank you for the plans. Attached are photos of our completed herb. My husband and I built this over the Labor Day weekend and are completely happy with the end product. Your plans are AWESOME!! I love that when I printed them out, it printed with the blue lines of the graph paper and even the red marks from your red pen. Yes, I know thats not a huge deal, but the fact that you scanned your plans made us feel so much better about this project for some reason. There is always something much more comforting about hand written anything as opposed to being typed up, right?

We did 3 things differently:

  1. Added the 2 optional legs in the center on both sides
  2. Used 2 less bags of soil
  3. We couldn’t find your exact metal brackets so we used the ones pictured instead

We transplanted the following:

  1. Garlic Chives
  2. Cherry Tomatoes
  3. Sage
  4. Thyme
  5. Spicy Oregano
  6. Serrano Peppers
  7. Jalapeno Peppers
  8. Cilantro
  9. Chives
  10. Dill

Thanks again!

Julie

Happy gardening!
