Next Issue for iPad adds Details, Cosmopolitan, Road & Track, Oprah Magazine – now offers 72 titles

With all of the hardware announcements this month — Kindle HD, Nokia Lumia 920, HTC Windows Phone 8S and 8X, Apple iPhone 5 — it's great to see some news on the content front.

Next Issue now offers 72 titles for a Netflix-like monthly subscription.

There’s more than just iOS 6 to today’s tech news. Next Issue, the magazine reader app for iPad and Android, has added 31 new titles, almost doubling its current selection. The all-you-can-eat service which offers a Netflix-like monthly subscription ($9.99 and $14.99 for premium) now offers a total of 72 titles.

“Our goal is to provide customers with the best digital reading experience, and offering unlimited access to the world’s greatest magazines at a flat monthly price comparable to popular music and video services is central to that,” said Morgan Guenther, CEO of Next Issue Media.  “By doubling the number of our world class titles, we are giving our subscribers and their families a way to read more of their favorites while discovering great new content from leading brands that they haven’t sampled before.”

New titles added to the Next Issue unlimited catalogs include: Cosmopolitan, Country Living, Details, Eating Well, Elle Décor, Every Day with Rachael Ray, Family Circle, Family Fun, Food Network Magazine, Golf World, Good Housekeeping, Harper’s Bazaar, HGTV Magazine, House Beautiful, Ladies’ Home Journal, Living the Country Life, Marie Claire, Midwest Living, More, O, The Oprah Magazine, Redbook, Road & Track, Seventeen, Successful Farming, Teen Vogue, Town & Country, Traditional Home, Veranda, W, Woman’s Day and Wood.

Android users, though, are given the cold shoulder, even though the app debuted on that platform first (April 2012). The new titles are only available on the Next Issue for iPad app. No word yet on when an updated Android version will arrive. By all accounts, it seems like the company (which is backed by Heart, Conde Nast, News Corp, and Time) is focusing its energy on the iPad, as the Android version appears sluggish and fraught with bugs by comparison.

So far our experience with Next Issue has been very positive. With all of the hardware announcements this month — Kindle HD, Nokia Lumia 920, HTC Windows Phone 8S and 8X, Apple iPhone 5 — it’s great to see some news on the content front.
