2011 Loreto Calendar Photo Contest
2011 Loreto Calendar Photo Contest

It took me longer than anticipated to go through all the votes posted both on the main entry and scattered across the over 140 photos submitted to this year’s 2011 Loreto Calendar.

This year the net proceeds will go to benefit Eco Alianza, a Loreto non-profit that helps promote environmental awareness in the community.

After contemplating how to tally up the votes as input into selection of this year’s photo finalists, I finally decided to rip a lined sheet of paper from a coiled notebook and write the photo numbers in 5 columns down the page. Then I went through each comment in the main post and then throughout each of the photos, marking an ‘x’ beside the selections all of you have made.

Thank you to all of you who took the time to vote!

The quality of photos was reflected in the spread of votes for almost all of the photos submitted. In the end, there were some favorites. Top honors in terms of the most number of reader votes goes to photos: 19, 53, 69, 83, 93, 112, and 120. Congratulations to those photographers.

For this round, 31 of the over 140 photos submitted have been selected. The final selection of the photos that will be published in the 2011 Loreto Calendar will be made based on:

  • Availability of a high-resolution version of the photo so that it can print up to the 8 1/2″ x 11″ at 300 dpi.
  • Balance in photo themes across the entire year. As I’ve noted before, variety is important as we flip through each month.
  • Showcasing of different photographers. Since this is a community effort, we’d like to ensure photos representative of a community of photographers.
  • Appreciate any help in commenting on these 31 finalists. If you are one of the photographers, great if you can send me a high-resolution version of your photo(s) if you have not already done so. My email is: loni@starkinsider.com.

As you can see, the 2011 Loreto Calendar is shaping up to being the best one yet. So far 44 calendars have been pre-ordered. You can order your calendar here.
