We were able to narrow it down to these 42 photos from the over 200 gorgeous photos submitted. It was a tough process!

Update 9/27/2009: 2010 calendars are ready for pre-order. CLICK HERE. Best, Loni

It has been a tough selection process this Sunday and plenty of wine was consumed. In the end, Clint and I, with the help of your feedback, were able to narrow it down to these 42 photos from the over 200 gorgeous photos submitted.

Sit down with a glass of wine, enjoy these wonderful photos and tell us which ones are your favorites by posting a comment. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the enthusiasm and support. I hope we will be able to set a new record with the amount we can raise as a community to benefit this year’s charity, the children of the Internado School in Loreto, BCS.

Comments on 42 pix from memory–the tree on red and green ground is great. Best sunset–the starfish. The gimmicky pictures are fun but won't wear well over a month–the oriole is too small, the quadrofoil is too limiting, the underwater photo is too vague, the talavera bowls too plain, the smoking dog too set up, the girl on Coronado beach too cute. By far the best gimmicky photo is the bar scene–I love it, but can I live with it for a month? Other favorites: the harbor and the Clam Shack. My wife loves the two kids on the doorstep, and her favorite pelican photo is the row on the golf course bridge. Nice job, Clint and Loni……Jim Hallett

Thanks Jim. Great feedback. Where's the rest, Loreto Lovers??? Let us know what you think. Do you think the girl on Coronado is too cute? the bar scene? Can you live with any of these photos for a month? Please comment, let us know… or, forever hold your margarita.

WOW! How could anyone decide? These are all spectacular.

I could live with any of these for more than a month. I particularly like the wagon in front of the hotel in town. Very indicative of Loreto. The starfish is staged but effective with the sunset. The pangas are cool but the horizon line needs to be straightened out. Best tones are the towers by Erich. All are great photos. I need a pina colada now.

I agree the dog /cigarette will not work for a whole month nor would the trucks. The most important is to do a variety, 1 dolphin, 1 pelican ( I like the one pointing at itself or the flock on the bridge), 1 of town, 1 of Loreto Bay casas (I'm partial to the ojo picture for some reason), then maybe the bowls, flowers for spring, and of course the Christmas Tree for December. I would be ok with the bar…maybe for a short month. After that just go for artsy, this is going to be a challenge because they are all so good. I for one will be buying a bunch for Christmas gifts!

Since I'm one of the semi-finalists, I'm not going to comment on my photos (although there is one with a reflection that is a favorite). All 40 of these pics are fabulous! Loni and Clint, I don't know how you whittled it down to just 40 because all 200+ were wonderful – kudos to you. Here's my picks. My absolute favorite is the bell tower and pelican by Deb Scanlon. Then in no particular order – the single pelican by Maria, the tree and sunrise by Deb S, the towers by Erich, the pelican on cactus by Deb S, Sharon kayaking by Jane L, the fishing kayakers by David V and Maria's starfish at sunrise. Can't wait to see the finished product. Whichever 12 make it, I'm buying a bunch again this year! Sitting here looking at Sept's Malecon right now. Tks Loni and Clint! Cathy

Is there a calendar format that would have a featured photo, but 2-3 smaller "thumbnails" on the side to get more onto the page? Chris Sessions wagon is a definet keeper. The pelican with the bell tower also is a favorite.

Wow, amazing photos, cant wait to see the calendar!!!! My favs: Deb Scanlon's, tree with the red sky, unreal!!! Cyndi Lundy's kids on the steps…really cute. Chris Sessions' Posada Cart, truly Loreto. David Valera's "Mike's Bar" I ESPECIALLY LOVE THIS PHOTO! And Al Graichen's clam shack. Oh, and for the record, that starfish got there all on his own, taken right in front of our Loreto Bay home at 5:30 a.m. :) Maria Sauvageau

My favorites are: Pelican/Inn Tower, 3 Kayakers, 4 Pelicans on bridge, Del Barracho Bar, Giggling Kids(w/Iittle toes), Erich's Sunrise over Founder's, Colorful Bowls, Nopolo Bridge Sunset, the approaching storm over the Malecon (might be good for 'hurricane' month), David Valera's tree at edge of golf course, whale tail (a cliche shot but it's Loreto!), Annie's Beach scene. The Christmas tree would( of course) be perfect for December but "Loreto" is hidden behind the tree….need a taller photograpjher next time! :)

  • Hi All, We hope to narrow it down to about 20 photos soon so keep those great comments coming! We are reading all the feedback and logging them in our decisions of the 20 finalists.

Once we have named the final 20, each of the photographers will be asked for a high resolution, print quality photo (basically the largest-sized photo) you have to send over. Any photographers that are unable to produce these will be dropped as low resolution photos will not print properly.

Just an update, you can now pre-order the 2010 Loreto Calendar here:

Hola everyone! What a great tradition this fund raising calendar will be! And what better way to collect wonderful images of our beloved Loreto than through this excercise. Thank you Loni and Clint and whomever else had this as an idea and / or particapants.
Everytime I see images of Loreto it brings back the feeling of Loreto!
I have to admit, from a pure photographic point of view, I love David V.'s work and style. And one of the aspects of Loreto I love is both cultures coming together and sharing….our own sort of "Cheers" in Del Barracho…how could we have a calendar without it!!??? I also agree with David's comments regarding the starfish/sunrise photo….love it. It works! And I'm not biased because I happen to adore Maria S. and her family!! LOL!!
Yes, I agree with Chris that the whale tail is a 'cliche' and what's a Loreto calendar without the whales? And I'd tell you it's taken me several years and countless hours on the water to get that particular whale tail shot. Being a kayaker I especially related to the kayak images….and once again I like David's composition. What's really cool is that all of these images elicit something in all of us…some resonating more strongly than others….so everyone is sure to be pleased and find something in the calendar that connects them back to Loreto and to each other.
I love Cyndi's colorful bowl shot with it's great use of depth of field. It's simple yet elegant and don't you just immediately resonate with the rich colors? How many dozens of shots have we seen of the cart in front of the Posada, yet Chris Sessions shot captures your attention and has lovely soft lighting. Same thing with the Samuels' Coronado water shot. Just puts you right there and an inviting image. I like the lighting Eric has in his Villages shot and how he's giving more life to the homes vs. just structures. Annie Omens shot of Punta Nopolo is classic Loreto! We could do a whole calendar on just views of and from that rock. So these are ones that just strike me and all of them evoke the dream of Loreto for all of us. Well done everyone!!

  • Not sure if my vote counts (I'm Anne & Tony's daughter, and wife of the spectacular David Valera and therefore highly biased), but Deb, thanks for the reminder of what this calendar will be doing for its 365 days in my home – reflecting wonderful times spent in Loreto, intriguing us to explore further, and inspiring us to visit more often! There are a lot of stirring photos here, I hope the final pix will each tell a story unique to Loreto. I love all of David pix, since those are the ones I've experienced most closely, and I love the bowls of color, and the wagon shot, but what I love most is the contrast from one photo to the next in color, texture and framing. Have you thought about making high-quality prints available? Can't wait to see the final calendar!

I like a lot of these photos: single bird on cactus, sunset with mission, wagon in front of Posada de las flores, #6 sunset, pelican with view of Hotel tower, Whale Tail, home towers, undersea shot, birds on cactus, pelican on bridge, seal, starfish. Good job everyone.

Liked Scanlon's whale tail up close and personal.

  • Gracie

These are some incredible pictures! Here are some of my favorites: Deb Scanlon's tree & sunset as well as the pelican and the bell tower, Eric's houses or buildings, Martha & Chucks birds and boats on the water, Maria's pelican, Jane's kayak woman at sunset and Tony & Carol's fishing boat at dusk…

  • I must say, this is such a great forum for all to share and showcase their love for Loreto and to help make a difference in the lives for the children of the Internado School in Loreto, BCS.

The calendar is a terrific idea since we all still seem to enjoy printed photo material in this digital age. For this calendar to be successful, we should choose the best images we have available and what a fantastic pool we have to choose from. I like the idea Al stated on having maybe 2 or more photos (maybe similar) on one month. Possibly in story board form. I know other family members will enjoy the calendar as xmas gifts.

I leave you with my Loreto collection to reflect on what a magical place this really is for us.
