Costa Loreto Marina & Residences: A marina is the heart of this master community

casas_salvatierra120I don’t know how I missed this development in Loreto, BCS.

As luck would have it, I stumbled across the Costa Loreto Marina & Residences development a couple of days ago and when I realized it was being built in the Loreto area, I became intrigued.

The master plan of this community is based on a central marina which is currently going under some revisions in design, but which will open into the Sea of Cortez. Around this marina are several smaller communities of single family homes, condos and commercial shops.

Los Cimarrones, was there first phase of this master development and on some parts of the website, it notes that property in this phase is sold out, whereas other areas on the website note there are still some residential lots available.

Villa Julieta is a 3.6 acre parcel situated with front row views of the beach front. The lots closest to the Sea of Cortez will be 2-story single family homes (a total of 10). Behind it, 54 condo units will be built offering multiple stories to take advantage of the water views.

Villa Jesuitas is a private community (I assume this means gated) with only 4 homes in total arranged in a row.

From the website, it seems that there are a couple of the properties already completed. However, the Costa Loreto website only has renderings, albeit very detailed renderings, of the models.

    Many thanks to you and Clint for all of the Loreto Bay updates that you write about. It is really appreciated by those of us who wait and wonder as our homes are being built in LB. <br />
    <br />
    Regarding the Costa Loreto marina, no where could I find where EXACTLY the proposed marina is to be built. Nothing on their web site hints at an exact location. Did I miss it. Can you shed any light on this.<br />
    <br />
    Thanks again, Frank

    Hi Frank – Glad you like the updates. <br />
    <br />
    We are fortunate to get great photos and tips from the homeowners that are in Loreto even when we are not. <br />
    <br />
    As for where exactly this development is, I've been scratching my head on this one as well. From the website, it seems it is still in planning stages. <br />
    <br />
    There is evidence of at least one actual home built. Check out this link: <a href="http://loretovilla.epropertysites.com/&quot; target="_blank"><a href="http://loretovilla.epropertysites.com/</a>&quot; target="_blank">http://loretovilla.epropertysites.com/</a></a&gt; <br />
    It is listed at $1.5M. It's address is (not that this is saying much…):<br />
    <br />
    9 Calle Privada Jesuitas<br />
    Loreto, BC 23880<br />
    Loreto Villa On The Beach in Sea of Cortez<br />
    <br />
    There are some good photos here.<br />
    <br />
    Any SSC readers know?

    This sounds like the development &quot;Ron&quot; (I think the last name is Reynolds but…) has north of the town of Loreto. It's about 3-4 miles north on Davis Street (dirt road) to a walled, gated community. <br />
    <br />
    I'd check to see if there was water or electricity as part of the package. His lots were going for $250 and up.

      The walled compound you are referring to is Randall Estates or as it is also called, Mil Palmas.

    I did notice statement on the Costa Loreto website which may point to the location:<br />
    <br />
    &quot;Costa Loreto is excited to welcome the grand opening of it's 5-star neighbor, the LA MISION hotel, with unsurpassed amenities and views during your stay in Loreto. Check out our 'Fly N' Buy' Plan while you visit!&quot;<br />
    <br />
    So when they say 5-star neighbor in reference to La Mision, wonder if they use this term loosely or literally mean neighbor.

    I believe I can answer the question as to where this development is located. Costa Loreto is north of the town center. If you drive north on Calle Davis past the Desert Inn you will come to a development with a guard gate. This is the first phase of the development. Continuing north you will cross a wetlands area that will eventually be the location of the marina. If you continue driving north on the dirt road you will enter the area known as El Bajo. <br />
    <br />
    One of the landmarks of this area along the beach is the old &quot;Penthouse&quot;, which was the local whorehouse. I haven't ventured into the remains of the building myself, but I understand there are some interesting murals on the walls. And, if you are adventurous and hungry, keep driving and you will reach La Picazon restaurant located about 5 miles north of the town. <br />
    <br />
    I know this area well, as this is where we will be building our house (hopefully in 2009).

      They’re going to put a marina in a wetlands area? I don’t think so. SEMARNAT is getting more vigilant about these sca__ – uh – projects. Do you all know the value of a wetlands to a marine environment? Do you all know that a MARINE PRESERVE is just offshore Loreto? Can’t you people find some place to spend your money without ruining the environment? There are hundreds of residences in Baja already built – take your choice.
